Enhancing our environment with clean, fresh water is what MUD is all about.  Whether it's water for drinking or water that is returning to the Delta, we ensure that it is clean and safe.

Water, wastewater, stormwater and environmental protection -- that's Stockton's Municipal Utilities Department's (MUD) business.

Our mission involves the support of many other City departments. MUD's revenues come from fees and charges paid by the residents and business for water supply, wastewater and stormwater services.

The Municipal Utilities Department delivers safe drinking water, collects and treats wastewater, keeps flood water off the streets, and makes sure that we all live in a safe, clean environment.

  • We receive, treat and discharge an average of 35,000,000 gallons of wastewater per day originating from homes, businesses, and industries within the greater Stockton metropolitan area.

  • We monitor safe delivery of approximately 5.5 billion gallons of potable water each year in north and south Stockton.

  • We keep the city in compliance with state and federal regulations on water, wastewater, stormwater and environmental protection.

  • Call when your storm drain isn't draining or when you see someone dumping used oil in the gutter - 937-8341.

  • Call when your neighbors are wasting water - 937-7031.

  • Call when your sewer is backing up - 937-8341.
