Stockton Arts Commission

The Stockton Arts Commission (SAC) serves as the arts advocacy commission for the City and a catalyst to support and strengthen community awareness, opportunities, and involvement in arts and culture. 

Arts Commission HistoryThe Commission was founded by Marian Jacobs and a group of local arts supporters in the mid-1970s. Today, the Commission operates within the City's Community Services Department with an arts director and a 15-member volunteer commission appointed by the Mayor and City Council.

2024 Stockton Arts GrantThe City of Stockton Arts Commission (SAC) is now accepting applications for the 2024 Stockton Arts Grant awards program. Stockton-based arts agencies, organizations, communities, individual artists, and art educators may submit applications for projects and programs that benefit the local community. The online application must be completed by Friday, January 2, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.

The SAC encourages project submissions that support and enable diverse arts and cultural programming that include activities, public engagement and access to various art forms throughout the community.

A total amount of $100,000 in grant funds will be awarded.  Grants to individual artists and artist organizations will not exceed $10,000, and grants for non-profit organizations will not exceed $20,000. Applicants may request any amount of funds. Grants awarded are typically between $1,000 and $10,000, with most grant awards falling between $1,000 and $5,000.

Awards will be made on a competitive basis for both large and small projects that are existing or new. All projects must take place within the city limits of the City of Stockton be completed by December 31, 2024.

Proposals are reviewed and grants are awarded upon recommendation by the SAC. The SAC may recommend funding toward only a portion of the total project request, and the SAC may select which portion of the project request it will recommend for funding.

Stockton Art NightsStockton Art Nights are quarterly art exhibits hosted by the Stockton Arts Commission (SAC). Art Nights will be held at the Stockton Memorial Civic Auditorium 525 N. Center St, Stockton, 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., on March 12, June 4, September 10, and December 10. Art Night events are free and offer an exciting opportunity for a variety of local artists to share their work with the community and visitors to Stockton. Applicants will be invited to participate on a competitive basis and selected by the SAC.

Apply NowThe City of Stockton Arts Commission (SAC) has announced the opportunity for artists and live performers to apply to participate in the 2024 Stockton Art Nights. The deadline for Artist Display and Live Performer Applications is Friday, January 26, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. The application must be completed and either emailed to benjamin.keisic@stocktonca.gov or dropped off to the CSD Administrative office on the second floor of the Cesar Chavez Library (605 N. El Dorado St) by Friday, January 26, 2024, at 5:00pm.
