Clean City Initiative
2023 Closeout & 2024 Look Ahead
The Clean City Initiative advances new and existing programs to reduce trash accumulation and illegal dumping across the City. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the City Manager's Office, Public Works Department, Stockton Police Department, Republic Services, Waste Management, and community volunteers.
Community Cleanup & Beautification Events
The Public Works Department is seeking volunteers (individuals and groups) to pick up litter and complete organized civic beautification projects. Events are scheduled within each City Council District.Upcoming Events

Drive-Thru Recycling Events
A great opportunity for Stockton residents to recycle or dispose of bulky items including mattresses, appliances, electronic waste, and more. On-site confidential paper shredding and free compost bags are additional services provided at these events.

- Drive-through recycling events take place from 8:00 a.m. to noon and may end early if capacity is reached.
- Community members dropping off items must bring identification or verification that they live in the City of Stockton.
- Participants must remain in their vehicles.
- All materials must be in the bed of a truck or trunk/cargo hatch of a passenger vehicle. Materials will not be removed from the passenger side.
- To make drop-off more efficient, please place mattresses at the top of your pile.
- Appliances, including refrigerators, washers, dryers, microwaves, water heaters
- Electronic waste, like TVs, computer monitors, VCRs, phones, stereos, copiers, fax machines
- Mattresses and box springs
- Tires, limited to five total. Please note that rims are not accepted
- Yard Waste
- Household chemicals*
- Fluorescent light bulbs*
- Pesticides*
- Construction waste, including bricks and concrete
- Tree stumps
- Batteries (car and household)*
- Liquid Paint*
- Used Motor Oil and Oil Filters*
- Car Parts
*San Joaquin County residents may dispose of these items for free at the San Joaquin County Household Hazardous Waste Facility.
- Staples and paper or plastic clips are acceptable.
- Quantity is limited to three banker boxes. Return trips are allowed.
- Plastic bags must be open. It is best to bring paper that needs to be shredded in boxes.
- Binders will not be accepted.
- All shredding is completed on-site.
Please note that service may end early if capacity is reached.
